With the finished program hopefully available very soon, I've now got a test version of the finished HoopShoot game that you can try out:

You can see all the new features and graphics yourself. Please do leave your comments and suggestions. This has been an immense amount of work in recent weeks, so I hope you'll be pleased with the nearly-finished result.

;) Hi Andrew

Well, my Cold War History is better than I thought! Brilliant.

Visually very pleasing, great layout.

The game is highly usable; the player is realistic and moves great around the circle. I like the little musical touch whilst preparing to shoot. The action for shooting can only be described as magic, how much was my heart beating…. Can you have a ‘boo’ when you miss a shot after answering a question correct?

A triumph; can't wait for the first version!

Thanks for the positive comments - much appreciated. I'll certainly add a 'boo' when you miss with a correct answer too.

The music that plays when you are waiting to shoot is random - sometimes it plays, other times it doesn't. I think I've found just about the right mix there. It actually does seem to put me off - whenever the music does play it seems to get much harder. I can add a couple more tunes in too.

Thanks! I will have a finished and usable version within the next few days. I need to get the timed challenge option finished - where you build up court time by answering questions and then try and score as many as you can in the time.

The game is very well developed and interesting. I like the idea of the time challenge - it adds to the fun. This makes the game even more competitive without taking away the importance of learning through answering MCQ.

Playing the game makes me even more excited - looking forward to developing my own hoopshoot challenge. Sure my pupils will like it. ;)

Another example for you to try out http://cgz.e2bn.net/e2bn/leas/c99/schools/...zy_Capitals.swf

Andrew - this is great - really like the layout and as Tony says - visually very pleasing - looking forward to trying out the time challenge - this is a great idea and will be very useful in the classroom.

Hi Andrew,

Hoop Shoot looks great - a booooooooo would be good, maybe an aaaaaaaarrrrggghhhh for a missed basket.
Anyway, game play is fun. The squeaks add to the authenticity. I found it hard to get the basketball to shoot straight - my reflexes for the red and green circles are obviously failing me. Too much wine.

PS Apparently girls outperform boys at every A Level subject EXCEPT languages - Thanks to the many language penalty shootouts available, boys remain on top for one subject area at least. Although I did request a girl player, maybe hold fire for a little longer otherwise boys won't be the best at anything!! (joke by the way!)

Anyway, well done, excellent! Have an A*.

Yes - great idea - an "Aaaaarrrgghhh" would be better as that follows the frustration at getting the question correct but missing the shot.

When I first introduced the game - the version I have on my own sites - I didn't appreciate that the method of shooting actually checks your spatial awareness. It requires players to focus on an object assessing distance and time. This is something that girls are supposedly better at that boys.

See this definition for more. Clearly this isn't a main aim of the game, but the key thing is that the method of shooting is suitably different to other games that I've got. I'm not trying to make spurious claims about the game!

I agree! Thank goodness for Rob's capitals one - at least it gave me a chance to score (and then discover I am hopeless!) whereas my cold war knowledge is zilch! (my 1975 O level history went from Pitt the Younger to Gladstone and that's it!) It will be good to have a new game to start the year off in September! :o
