Hole in One playable demo [beta 0.8]

You can try a playable demo of the upcoming Hole in One game at http://www.contentgenerator.net/holeinone/beta08.shtml - there are further developments still required such as the multi-player and two player games but the main features are all there.

From initial testing it seems like the 'novice' setting allows a few too many Holes in One so I will adapt this further, but please do share any thoughts about this new game. It has been ages in development but it reaching a stage where I hope we've got another great game to use in the classroom.

January 2012

A quick January 2012 update for ContentGenerator.net. We are still developing the Hole in One game - as always we only release a game & generator program when it is ready for general use. It has taken a very long time but we are hopeful of a beta release Spring this year. Should you wish to get further updates do follow ContentGenerator.net on Twitter @contentgen, or my own personal account @andyfield

The Hole in One game in development:

The main menu system is nearly ready:

Main title screen with game options
'Intro' screen, showing your actual course - dynamically changes each game

The game screens are functional and developing - but I want them to be far sharper and smarter for the release:

There is more work to be done in terms of the question handling and the appropriate balance between the game and the questions:

Questions screen
Correct answer

Incorrect answer

I have been really pleased with the impact of On Target? which took ContentGenerator.net games to a new level of professionalism. This is what we are targeting with Hole in One as well. In addition, we have our 'Fire the Teacher' game in planning after Hole in One.

There is also the industry shift away from Flash games. Currently there are no HTML5-powered games which offer the functionality and usability of Flash. This post (from photonstorm.com) sums the situation up extremely well: - basically in the longer term, html5 does look to be the future but the industry is in a state of flux at the moment. We will continue to monitor and develop what we hope is best practice. It is a real shame that Flash doesn't work natively on iPads and iPhones as this really would be the ideal solution. However, with Adobe removing support for mobile Flash this will now never happen.

All the very best for 2012.

Payloadz.com site down

We've noticed this morning that the PayLoadz.com website is currently down. This is the site we use to link payments to PayPal and offer instant downloads when you make a purchase.

We are monitoring the situation currently and will update when we know more.

It means that if you try to make an instant purchase at the moment, the purchase link will not work. Should you wish to make a purchase, do raise a ticket via the 'support' link above or e-mailing sales@contentgenerator.net. We can provide you with a manual link for payment and downloads.

Our apologies for this current situation. We noticed the site was down when trying to support existing customers with replacement downloads. Normally where a site is down it reappears rapidly, but nothing has been seen for the past 30 minutes.

En Garde - SCORM beta 3.1

We have now completed work on an update to the En Garde game meaning it is 100% SCORM compliant. You can even see the evidence of this from the brilliant SCORM testing cloud service provided by Rustici:

This image shows how the player got 88% of the questions correct and how all the data was correctly fed back, proving that the SCORM SCO worked correctly. It is very useful to test SCORM .zip files in this way as it helps identify where any issues occur - whether it is a connection with a particular learning platform or whether it is an issue with the .zip file itself. SCORM functionality is a complex beast.

There have been a few tweaks in the game itself but these are cosmetic. The generator interface has been completed recoded though to bring it into line with the other 3.1 releases. SCORM compliance is the key development. This update will be made available to all existing customers at no additional charge. We are very keen to ensure that all the appropriate games are updated to support SCORM and continue with this progress.

In tests so far, the only disappointment has been with Moodle 2. The SCORM functionality seems not to work with the latest release of Moodle 2, even though it did with the release version. I believe that recent updates to Moodle may have solved this, but will investigate further. In our tests of Moodle 1.9 at http://www.cg-scorm.net the tracking works perfectly.

If you are an existing customer, or curious about what the program does offer, please let us know by replying to this message. You can then get access to the beta version.

Season's Greetings from ContentGenerator.net [2010-2011]

It seems amazing that a year has passed already - it only seems like yesterday that we were wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year.

The last year saw the release of On Target? and further updates to the SCORM functionality, but we're still eagerly working on even more. The upcoming Hole in One should be well worth the wait - as will the other SCORM upgrades together with the rest of Suite 3.
As some of you may be aware, 2010 was a difficult year for us personally - our second daughter was born but never made it out of hospital. She is sadly missed but we treasure the eight days we had with her - we setup a website in her name - http://www.daniellefield.co.uk.
